Successfull deployment for first UK Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier.
On Friday, 28th October in Rosyth Naval Dockyard, Scotland, LSA helped supervise the harbour acceptance test deployment of 3 x LSA 20m MES and 2 x 100 person self-righting link liferafts from the first UK Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth. The test deployments were conducted expertly and successfully by members of the ship’s company and witnessed by senior Royal Navy officers.
There are two QE Class Aircraft Carriers and LSA MES configuration on each vessel comprises in total; 6 x 20m MES and 24 x 100 person self-righting link liferafts. The LSA MES configuration will be installed on the second in class vessel, HMS Prince of Wales later this year.
LSA European Manager Peter Rea commented:
"We believe this is the largest naval vessel any MES has been fitted to. LSA are privileged to be associated with what will become in the near future the Royal Navy fleet flagship. We have been involved with this project since 2003, so it is great to see the equipment finally installed and being operated so expertly yet simply by the ship’s dedicated MES crew. We have developed a great relationship with the shipbuilder, Aircraft Carrier Alliance and lately the ship’s crew and Naval Authority. LSA MES will provide the safest and most rapid evacuation for all the vessel crew if and when required".
